Penguin Travels Five Thousand Miles Every Year To See The Man Who Saved It

Joao Pereira de Souza is a part time fisherman following his retirement from bricklaying. He lives on a village on an Island close to Rio de Janeiro and about five years ago he discovered a penguin lying on the rocks at the beach covered in oil that was dying. So Mr. De Souza did something remarkable he picked up the bird, cleaned the oil from its feathers and fed it daily so it could recover its strength. He even named the bird Dindim and after about a week of recuperation, the fisherman went to release the bird back into the sea.

Check Out This Video Of A Leopard Rampaging Through An Indian School

Recently a male leopard was seen rampaging through a school in the Indian city of Bangalore which led to a ten hour stand-off between wildlife officers and the big cat. According to news reports, six people were said to have received injuries as they sought to remove the leopard. Ultimately the leopard which is estimated to be eight years old was tranquilised and moved to Bannerghatta Biological Park for recovery.

Sumatran Tiger Cub Born At Indonesian Zoo

Recently a Sumatran tiger cub was born at an Indonesian as a direct consequence of conservationist efforts to raise the country’s population of the species which is now listed as being critically endangered. The video shows the cute little critter wandering about its cage trying to get a sense of its surroundings. At the moment the tiger’s handlers have not been able to tell whether the cub is male or female because its mother has been a tad bit aggressive protecting her baby. The new arrival along with its mother are joined by only 10 other Sumatran tigers that live at the zoo.

Wild Siberian Tiger Chases Car

It is estimated that there a less than 600 wild Siberian tigers left globally. With that said, one would hardly expect casually encounter this endangered species even if you were wandering around the forests of South-East Russia where they live. A Russian motorist who was driving along a road in a forested area did just that and came across the big cat. What the tiger did next both surprised and thrilled.

Ten Thousand Sharks Congregate On The Coast Of Florida

Last week there were over 10,000 blacktip sharks seen swimming around off the coast of Palm Beach County. Whilst that might seem like a huge number, it is perfectly normal for this species of shark to migrate en masse to warmer waters during the colder months. What is unusual is this year they seem to have migrated further north so they are within 100 metres of the shoreline. Stephan Kajiura a shark biologist from Florida Atlantic University said it was fascinating they were so close because you could literally stand up against the shoreline and toss a pebble and hit a shark.

Check Out This Rare Footage Of A Great White Shark Breach In Mexico

A photographer taking video and images in the Guadalupe Islands of Mexico has captured some wonderful footage of a great white shark leaping clear out of the ocean next to a submerged cage full of divers. Gerardo Del Villar shot the video and uploaded it to the internet. What is unusual is that in Mexico, great white sharks rarely breach for reasons which are poorly understood unlike off the coast of South Africa where they hunt in shallower waters.

Weird Relationship Between Tiger And Goat Ends In A Fight

The unusual friendship between tiger and goat that we blogged about last year has unfortunately come to an end. The long companionship between Timur the goat and Amur the Siberian tiger ended tragically in a fight at the end of January. The unlikely friendship developed when the goat was placed in the tiger’s enclosure as part of the tiger’s twice weekly live animal feeders. The goat shocked spectators by not only refusing to be eaten but also kicking the tiger out of the area where he sleeps.
