The Winner of our Prize Draw is Announced
As I’m sure you were aware, we recently held a special prize draw to celebrate the launch of our new adoption website. This gave you the chance to win £500 for an animal charity of your choice, simply by adding your name to our email newsletter list. We were inundated with sign ups hoping to claim the prize for their favourite organisation, but there could be only one winner.
And the winner is ….
We can now let you know that the prize went to Joanne McGonagle from Glasgow. Joanne was very happy when she was notified of the winnings – and she had no hesitation in deciding the money should go to the Glasgow branch of Cats Protection where she used to be a volunteer.
Joanne originally found out about the draw from the udopt facebook page and upon winning said :
I’d lke to say a big thank you to udopt.co.uk for giving me the opportunity to choose the charity to receive this donation. I chose Cats Protection as I love cats and I used to volunteer for them, but I had to stop when I had my first child. They do great work in the city, neutering, microchipping and rehoming all cats that come in to their care.
I really like your site and enjoyed using the udopt’r to find my animal matches (I was a mountain gorilla!). I hope your website continues to raise awareness of the animals that need our help.
How the £500 will be put to use
Cats Protection Glasgow is run by a small team of unpaid volunteers, who work tirelessly in their spare time to not only care for unwanted cats, but also find them new homes in and around the Glasgow area. It is completely self sufficient, and is funded by donations which help to care for the cats they rescue and look after, so this £500 cash injection will be something of a welcome Christmas present.
On learning of the donation, co-ordinator for the branch, Lorraine Currie, said –
We are absolutely delighted to win this amount of money, especially at this time of year. We have over 30 cats in care at the moment and many kittens, some who need regular medical care. This time of year also brings larger medical bills as we deal with more stray cats on the streets that we try our best to bring in from the cold weather.
We will use the money to ensure all the cats we have in care have an extra special Christmas and allow us to pay for medical treatment for cats that are due to come into our care. As a volunteer branch, all the money donated goes directly to the cats for food, bedding or medical bills, so it is just fantastic.
We are also able to use some of the money to get our Christmas calendars printed to sell and make more for the cats – the calendar is a collection photographs of our long term cats and cats that we continue to pay medical bills for when homed. They were taken by a photographer who volunteered her time and the calendar was created by another volunteer who lives in the USA…!! It’s just so great to be able to get these rescued cats on display around Glasgow and to raise more funds. We can’t thank Joanne and udopt enough for the kind gesture. She has made many cats happy this Christmas!
A massive congratulations, and of course a Merry Christmas, to Lorraine and the team at the Glasgow branch of Cats Protection! Here’s hoping that the £500 goes a long way to helping them find lovely new homes for all the cats and kittens they care for.
